Are you looking for or wondering where to find flea market items to sell? Wouldn’t you rather find flea market items that DO SELL? There really is a big difference between the two.

I have been selling for almost 21 years at the flea market and I have seen people try to sell a lot of different things. They come out, set up and then at the end of the day they pack up most if not all of what they brought out and then go home thinking that the flea market business really sucks.

Just the opposite also happens. They bring out things from around the house and sell them real cheap. The flea market vendors know they can resale these items and it looks like sharks at a feeding frenzy. They go home counting their money and thinking the flea market business  is great and they want to come back and sell more.

The big difference is really quite simple. You have to sell items that people either need or want at a good price. So what are these items and where do you find them?

In order to be successful you will have to do some investigating to find out what sells at the particular flea market you want to set up in.

It is strange how this works but you can have one item that sells really wellat one market and it will not sell at another market. This is what I call forcing a product on the market which was the first example I talked about. It is something no one needs or wants and it doesn’t matter what the price is.

So your homework assignment is to go to the flea markets you want to sell in and see for yourself who is making sales and what they are selling. You don’t need to re-invent the wheel.

In almost every flea market there are vendors selling the same things. Why? Becausethey are making money. So pick flea market items that you know you can buy wholesale that doesn’t have to much competition.

The name of the game is to do a better job of selling than the other vendors. If you do, eventually your competitors will quit and you can dominate your market.Once you get in and get your feet wet keep adding products until you find what is a good fit for you.

The flea market vendors who have longevity have discovered one of the secrets. Sell things that people need or want and you will build the most important thing of all. Trust and repeat customers.

Can you find all of the flea markets in your area? You can find all the flea markets in your surrounding area by getting hold of a flea market directory. The next step is to go and visit each one of them. The next thing you want to know is the number of vendors for every market. How many dealers are selling the same things? Competition is good, but only up to a certain point. You need to be on the lookout for sellers who are actually making sales. Be sure to check out what is being carried around by shoppers. I know this sounds obvious but you have to sell products that people want or need.

After selling for over 20 years at the flea market I see this happen to new dealers all the time. Novices to this business often want to market the product that is hot right now. Those products have a short life span plus all the other dealers are selling them.

Walk all the aisles and examine what is happening in every market. You might want to take notes so you can get it all together later.

A few other things you need to know is what days each flea market is open. You need to know how much your booth will cost. Can you get a discount if you pay by the week-end or month? Also when you set up you need to get a good spot. You can have the best goods in the world but if no one gets to your booth then you will go home with only a few dollars.

Every state and county is different as to the different license that you might need. Always find out from management what is required. These generally turn out to be inexpensive.

Finally, without going too deep into this, I would suggest that you find a good wholesaler. This is an important decision because you need to find goods that will make you a really good profit and be able to count on your wholesaler for your merchandise week after week.
